PURPOSE 

Humanitarian Technical Specialists are called to provide expertise and project management guidance in the Church’s humanitarian initiatives (see below). Humanitarian Technical Specialists work under the direction of the Europe Central Area Welfare and Self-Reliance management and receive specialized training from consultants at Church Headquarters. 

As a service missionary called as Humanitarian Technical Specialist, you will live and serve from home. You may occasionally have the opportunity to travel. 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR HUMANITARIAN TECHNICAL SPECIALISTS 

  • Church member with a current temple recommend 
  • Effective relationship building skills 
  • Fluent in English with good written and verbal communications skills 
  • Willing to travel internationally. 
  • Proficient computer skills; video conferencing, email, word documents, excel, etc. 
  • Project management skills; ability to manage operations, budgets and objectives 
  • Ability to work effectively with international government and non-government organizations 

Medical Care Specialist – Help develop and review medical health related projects and teach life-saving skills to medical professionals for e.g. newborn babies born with breathing difficulties and mother care. - General qualifications from the following backgrounds: family practice MD, pediatrician, neonatologist, OBGYN, labor & delivery nurse or equivalent. 

Mobility Specialist – Teach skills to rehabilitation professionals and users in proper wheelchair fitting, provisioning and maintenance. - General qualifications from the following backgrounds: MD, physical or occupational therapist; experience in wheelchair seating/provisioning preferred or equivalent. 

Clean Water Specialist – Help communities develop and maintain sources and clean water systems in less developed areas. - General qualifications from the following backgrounds: civil engineering, hydrology, construction management, water management, contractor management, well drilling or equivalent. 

Vision Care Specialist – Train medical eye care professionals in best practices and provide guidance and direction to vision screening projects. - General qualifications from the following backgrounds: ophthalmologist familiar with cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy, other eye complications; optometrist for non-surgical screenings and refractive error projects or equivalent. 

Food Security Specialist – Help communities and families grow and produce food for nutrition and family security. - General qualifications from the following backgrounds: agriculture, food science, botany, biology, food production, farming, environmental science or equivalent.
